About OpenSky

What is OpenSky?

OpenSky is the open access institutional repository of scholarly works published by scientists, researchers, and other staff supporting NCAR, UCAR, and UCP. It provides free and open access to our scientific scholarship for the benefit of the Earth system science research and education communities, contributing to UCAR’s mission of science in service to society. OpenSky is also home to digitized and born-digital material from the NCAR Archives, which preserves and provides access to NCAR/UCAR history.

Scope

OpenSky includes:

  • Journal articles that have a formal publication date (articles that are submitted, accepted, or in ‘early view’ status are not included)
  • NCAR Technical Notes
  • Conference materials (presentations and posters)
  • Student research
  • Photographs and videos (current and historical images that are open for use in publications, websites, proposals, reports, and other formats)
  • Historical institutional correspondence and records that document the activities of NCAR/UCAR
  • Oral history interviews with staff
  • Lab and program records
  • Field project records
  • Books & book chapters
  • NCAR/UCAR Staff Notes
  • Reports
  • Newsletters
  • Works contributed by UCAR community partners

Services

  • Institutional Reporting. OpenSky also supports organizational annual reporting to funders, including statistics and metrics on NCAR and UCAR scholarly output.
  • Web Services. OpenSky staff can help to automatically populate online CVs and lab or divisional web pages with up-to-date publication information.
  • Preservation. OpenSky ensures long-term access to conference materials, reports, and other documents.
  • Orientation to Open Sky for individuals, for labs/programs/teams.
