As a cumulus cloud grows larger and develops vertically, it begins to resemble a head of cauliflower and is known as cumulus congestus or towering cumulus. Rain showers may result from this type of cloud, which often develops into a cumulonimbus, or thunderstorm, cloud, which can produce much more violent weather.
